student who gets violent
By:xc

Everywhere I go there are signs saying something like "violent and or abusive behaviour will not be tolerated," or "we reserve the right to refuse service to violent or aggressive people".

Regardless of your own past, this behaviour is NOT acceptable. If there is a reason for his out bursts then he should have a trained worker, parent or guardian present with him during lessons.

I've been working or volunteering with children from age 3-18 for the past 13 years in 5 different cities. No where that I have ever put myself would tolerate this behaviour, it must be addressed at once for your safety and his.

Discuss it with either the school administrator or his parents. If he does not have a medical condition, then he has to buck up or get out, no matter if you only work one HOUR a week.

As for dealing with your own fears, all you can do is re-assure yourself that YOU are the adult, YOU are in the dominant position and YOU will not accept that behaviour anymore. I think the best thing you can do for yourself is take control and fix the situation.

My 13 year old brother in law who stands over 6 feet tall was expelled from an entire school SYSTEM because he swears when he gets mad. He has never been violent in school, nor at home that either myself or my husband is aware of, however, due to his sheer size and verbal aggression the teachers were all afraid of him.

It is not acceptable. End it, for you own sake and safety.
