The Courage of a Teacher
By:T. J. Lashley

Sometimes we don't include, nor categorize the teaching profession as a profession that calls for courage.

In fact, it takes a marvelous courage to be a teacher and it is important to remember this as you stand before and prepare young people for life after education.

The courage of a teacher goes further than just being willing to stand up in front of children every day and try to reach their educational interests and their learning hot buttons and keep them motivated for excellence all the way through their studies. Children are by nature blessed with a short attention span and social distractions abound teaching those takes a real courage a whole lot of patience.

Teaching is courageous from a career perspective as well. Teaching is courage and passion that doesn't derive it's satisfaction from high monetary feedback, rather it's the success of young minds that fuel the fire for teachers.

The courage of a teacher means they are enduring substantial sacrifices for the betterment of their pupils. Today, teachers even have to fight for the betterment of some students even without the support and encouragement from the student's parents or family

Today especially, it can be said that it's not really true that teacher doesn't encounter physical dangers. In many urban schools, some teachers face injury or even worse from students who are a member of gang who may threaten or attempt to intimidate teachers for some reason. There are also cases where school shootings put students in danger, and yet teachers still try to protect their students.

Teachers are truly courageous, and we should be thankful for their contribution to our children's lives... and on society in general.

A bond of respect can develop between a class of students and a teacher, and this is a valuable asset to the educational development of students.

This bond often carries forward, and the children will speak with admiration and of respect for a teacher they had even decades ago.

As you prepare yourself, and follow your career path toward becoming a professional teacher, you may not even be considering yourself as a courageous one, and because of the sacrifices you are about to make, while teaching and educating the young students to be better and successful adults... remember that is a task worthy of recognition and honor.
