How to learn a foreign language quickly
By:Mike Manou <kev1365@yahoo.com>

1) Give yourself enough time!

One factor in learning a foreign language is time! I have a lot of students who have been in class for a week and they expect to speak fluently. This is almost impossible! Also, spend more time with the language. Someone who spends 24 hours of the day in t he foreign language (Spanish, Turkish, Portuguese, Italian, German, any language) will end up learning much faster than someone who only spends one hour a day.

2) Listen to others speaking the language, but be an active participant too

Listen wherever you can hear the language. If you have an mp3 player, download some conversations from the web. Try to participate in other people's conversations; don't be afraid of making a fool of yourself.

3) Focus on words and phrases!

Try to learn as many new words and phrases as possible. Any language, such as Turkish, French, Italian, Korean, Chinese, and Vietnamese has certain phrases that other languages do not have. Learn the phrases first, and then learn the slang terms.

4) Take responsibility for your own learning!

If you do not want to learn the language, you won’t. If you do want to learn the language, then overcome your fears of not speaking properly, and just learn and speak it, you might end up surprising yourself! So sit back and enjoy. Just make sure you spend enough time with the language. That is the greatest guarantee of success.

5) Say no translators, translation software, or translation services

Whenever you don't understand a word, try to avoid dictionaries, translation service companies, or automatic translators that you can find on the internet. Try to figure out the meaning of the word based on other words you know, and based on the context. Then, check your answer by looking it up in a dictionary.
