6 Traits You Need to Have a Fulfilling and Successful Teacher Career
By:Patricia Strasser

If you want to be a successful and effective teacher, you need to have: a good sense of humor, a positive attitude, high expectations of yourself, consistency, fair judgments, and flexibility.

Successful teachers are not measured through recognition and financial attainment. Instead, it is about achieving self fulfillment and having the right attitude that make a person an effective educator. For you to be successful in your teaching career, equip yourself with these positive perspectives that will help you to be efficient in your pursuit of a successful teaching job:

Good sense of humor

If you have a good sense of humor, you know how and when to give a good and healthy laugh. Having good sense of humor will not only help you overcome awkward and sometimes, serious situations, it will also kill the boredom, especially if you are in a room surrounded by students with short-attention spans. With your sense of humor, students will enjoy attending your class and will avoid missing it because you have made them feel comfortable. A good sense of humor will bring you closer to your students and will make you feel relaxed when dealing with difficult classroom scenarios.

Positive attitude

Having a positive attitude is the most important thing in life and in being a teacher as well. A positive attitude will help you to cope with any teaching disappointments. This will also healthily protect your ego, especially in situations where you have and a mistake and are corrected by a student. All of us make mistakes because we are only human.

High expectations of yourself

You must also have high expectations 0f yourself, so that your students will not get easy on you. Always set the appropriate standards so you c an let the students understand the importance of striving hard. High expectations of yourself and setting an example will surely imply that you are serious about giving all of your students a serious education. This attitude will also stimulate you to work hard as a teacher.

Consistency

Being consistent in your behavior and teaching methods are also keys to a successful teaching career. Just like any job, consistency will prove your working ethics and attitude. This will also imply your firm and founded character, which will help you gain respect from the students and from your colleagues.

Fair judgments

Being fair is also important, so that your students will trust your judgment and your ways of teaching. Being fair is giving the students what they ought to learn equally. Make your students feel that, as a teacher, all students are equal and deserve equal attention. Students easily name teachers for being unfair or bias. It is very important for a teacher to be grounded and open minded so that they may gain respect and provide fair judgments.

Flexibility

Also, be flexible at all times. This attitude may not always be easy, but it will show the class that you are always in control of yourself and the classroom situation. This will help the students to open up with you and trust you.

Also, don't forget that aside from having the right attitude; teachers should also have complete teaching materials for them to be fully efficient and effective in delivering their lessons in class.
