Teaching Kids How to Write Their Own Halloween Books
By:Daryl Plaza

Teaching kids how to write their own Halloween books can be a lot of fun! Children have a natural flair for creativity. When it comes to Halloween, there are many creative stories that can be created - everything from dancing pumpkins to headless ghouls! The first thing that you should do in order to encourage the creativity of the children that you are teaching how to write is gather up some good Halloween books and read them together.

You may even elect to have the kids to gather in groups and assign certain books to each group. Once this step has been completed, you should encourage the kids to jot down some ideas that they found interesting from the stories that they have read.

Now, when teaching kids to write their own Halloween books, it is important to ensure that you express the importance of starting their story off with a normal, every day kind of scene. In order to create a truly scary story, fear must be developed. You may have them start the story off like they are getting ready for school and start to go there.

A lot of emphasis should be made on the "norm"; then, the story should include a frightening, yet subtle change. The "scary" part of the story should climax slowly to build up the anticipation and work up the emotions of the reader. Special care should always be made when it comes to setting up the scene and working in the story line of the Halloween story.

These are very important elements when it comes to the main body of the composition and the ability to draw in the interest of the readers who are seeking to be "spooked".

When teaching kids how to write their own Halloween books, it is important to encourage them to use many descriptive phrases. Encourage children to use "colorful" words and phrases when they write. It is always a good idea to ensure that a Thesaurus is readily available to children that are writing compositions and that they are encouraged to use it frequently.

Once the kids that you have taught how to write have succeeded, it is important to encourage them to go ahead and compose illustrations to compliment their stories. Then, you should have them compile the Halloween books and present them to others. This is something that they should be proud of, and encouraged to share.
