I'm an American living in Korea where I teach at a public middle school. I teach 25 different classes with 34-36 kids in each class. I see each class once a week. My job is to help these kids speak better English. My question is, how can I do that? I have textbooks but they are not terribly good. They introduce basic expressions for everyday situations and what I'm doing now is expanding on that by introducing additional expressions and alternatives that we practice together. Generally the kids don't enjoy this and neither do I. So how do I engage them and yet still get them to learn anything? Furthermore, I am only responsible for helping them with their verbal skills, all other things are covered by Korean teachers. I've tried various games with little success, I need something educational and accessible to everyone. The problem is that in every class there's too much variation in ability. Advanced kids are mixed with kids that know very little. I'd appreciate any help.
