BIRDS

1. Grouse, grousing. Stop your grousing (grumbling). This comes from the funny sounds a grouse makes. They sound like they are angry.

2. Bird brained (stupid).

3. Parroting (repeating words/espressions like a parrot)

4. Goose-necked or swan-necked(long and slim neck).

5. Goosed (poked in the "bum").

6. Owlish (like an owl, watchful and a little bookish)

7. Eagle-eyed (great vision, watchful)

8. Hawkish (war-like)

9. Chicken (Are you chicken? = afraid.)

10. Chicken-livered, chicken-hearted, chicken-shit (also afraid or lacking courage). Lily-livered first appears in Shakespear's Macbeth, so I'm told, and it was derived from Greek tradition (maybe S.E. Asian originally) and magical divination.

11. Cocky (proud and confident)

12. A Chick (a girl)

13. Hen pecked (constantly scolded by a wife). Henish means like a hen, motherly, womanish.

14. Duckish weather (duck weather, rainy)

14. A Peacock (a vain and gaudy person)

15. Sparrow, Jay, Robin, Peregrin (common, family or nicknames)

16. A dove (a peaceful person)

17. Craning your neck. (sticking it out like a crane)

18. Cookoo (crazy)

19. Turkey (rediculous or silly person, jive-turkey is Afro-American, jive meaning lies)

DOGS

1. Dogged (being persued, followed)

2. Hang-dog looks (a tired and saggy look)

3. Crooked as a dog's hind leg (very dishonest).

4. Dog gone (another way to swear)

5. Dog's-tooth (a type of triangular pattern in weaving, especially in wool cloth)

5. Puppy eyes or puppy love (young and beautiful)

6. "Bitch" or "Son-of-a-bitch" (put-downs or swear terms)

7. Husky (fairly large size, not medium or overly fat.)
