ASB delivers a dynamic educational program that encourages each student to achieve her or his highest potential. While ASB is a U.S. style school, the Indian setting and our multi-national community, representing over 43 countries, brings together children who have varied experiences to learn in a rich and unique environment. As an International Baccalaureate World School; our PYP, Middle School, Pre-IB, and IB Diploma program perfectly complement our American Curriculum. This is something extra for our students who are seeking a superior education and admission to top universities all over the world. With the introduction of laptops to our school, ASB sought and was granted the first wireless network system in India. Since then, our laptop program has grown and become an important tool in the delivery of our curriculum.

ASB is a fully recognized World IB School utilizing an international curriculum with full accreditation from the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools. It is also accredited by the Commission of International and Trans Regional Accreditation. The International Baccalaureate (IB) program was established at ASB in 1998. ASB's IB-Primary Years Program (PYP) and International Baccalaureate Diploma Program (IB/DP) are authorized by the International Baccalaureate Organization in Geneva, Switzerland.

Our Middle School Concept for grades 6-8 emphasizes strong academics coupled with programs and strategies that meet the needs of the whole child.

Students in all divisions benefit from strong academic programs in math, science, language arts, social studies (humanities), French or Spanish, music, visual and dramatic arts, technology, and PE. Specialist teachers are provided for French, Spanish, Drama, Music, Art, PE, and Technology for grades ECEC (Early Childhood Education Center) through grade 12. The school has a strong commitment to professional development and to providing leadership opportunities for all of our educators. A climate of collegiality, collaboration, and professionalism permeate all three of our divisions.

ASB's innovative wireless laptop program is well-established in the secondary school where all students in grades 6-12 use Tablet PC's as an instrument of learning throughout the curriculum. ASB strives to be a leader among international and US schools in the use of wireless technology in education.

Approximately 10% of students are English as a Second Language (ESL). These students, depending on their age and fluency, spend a portion their day in ESL sessions and are increasingly mainstreamed as appropriate.

The school offers a comprehensive After School Activities (ASA) program and athletics program. The ASA program includes: Arts and Crafts, Cooking, Hindi, Taekwondo, and many others. The athletics program includes track and field, soccer, tennis, volleyball, basketball and swimming. In addition, ASB actively participates in the South Asian International School Association (SAISA), music festivals, choral festivals, Model United Nations and ISTA.

About Mumbai: Mumbai, until recently called Bombay, is the world's fifth largest city. A flamboyant and cosmopolitan city, Mumbai is the capital of Maharashtra State and is India's financial, industrial, trading, and entertainment center.

History: Originally Mumbai was a small cluster of seven islands detached from the subcontinent by turbulent creeks along which lived the fishing communities. These original inhabitants built a shrine to their goddess, Mumbadevi, giving the city the name Mumbai which later the British rulers changed to Bombay. Mumbai was ceded by Muslim rulers to the Portuguese in 1549 and sold by them to a botanist. In 1659, when Charles II of England married the Portuguese Princess Catherine of Braganza, the islands became part of her dowry and came into possession of the British. Early in this century Mumbai became the center for the "Quit India" movement led by Mahatma Gandhi, the leader of the nationalist movement in the 1930's and 1940's. Through the years, Mumbai has developed a character of its own. Despite is congestion and over population, it continues to hold a charm for its residents.

Population: The population of Mumbai is estimated at approximately 20 million.
