English schools in Asia

Thailand - Pathum Thani
School:Siam International School

Siam International School is well situated on Rangsit-Nakornnayok Road north of metropolitan Bangkok and three kilometers from the Outer Ring Road. The spacious 41 Rai site has a healthy and spacious environment, which provides excellent educational opportunities for our Thai and international students. The school includes a Kindergarten, Elementary School, Middle School, and High School. Seasonal English Camps and Summer Camps are advertised all year long and are available not only to our students but other children in the community. These “selling points” continue to bring in new students annually. The layout of the school is very inviting with well designed classrooms, a theatre and auditorium, computer and science labs, counselor’s office, nurse’s office, a library, art room, both music and band rooms, and leisure spaces within a large canteen area.

The province of Pathum Thani, according to the most recent census of 2000, has a population of 677,600 of which 20% are of school age or almost school age (0-14 yrs.). The province is very Thai (at 99.7% of the pop.) and mostly Buddhist (96.3%). There is a small minority of Muslims in the district, at almost 3%.

Socio-economic figures from Pathum Thani indicate that there is more wealth here than in other regions around Bangkok. Almost 20% of the employment force has indicated that they run, or help run a business, while 68% are employed by someone else.

Pathum Thani is a neighboring province of Bangkok. It is situated on the Chao Phraya basin with plenty of canals and orange plantations. Its original name is Mueang Sam Khok, which was founded during the Ayutthaya era. It was the settlement for the Mon people migrating from Mohtama (in Myanmar) over 350 years ago. In the year 1815 when King Rama II made a royal visit to this area, the inhabitants offered him plenty of lotus flowers which are the origin of the present name.

The Pathum Thani Town is only 46 kms. from Bangkok. It occupies an area of 1,525 square kilometers and is administratively divided into 7 districts (Amphoes): Muang Pathum Thani, Lat Lum Kaeo, Sam Khok, Thanyaburi, Nong Suea, Khlong Luang, and Lam Luk Ka.
