English schools in Asia

Kazakhstan - Almaty
School:Almaty International School

Almaty International School, a private non-profit institution that opened in September 1993, offers high quality education in the English language for preschool (3-4 years), elementary, middle, and secondary students. The school, a purpose-built facility that opened in January, 2003, is located on nearly seven hectares of land on the edge of the city.

The school's educational philosophy, which includes a personalized approach to instruction, leads to teaching for mastery. We believe in success for all students. We seek to create a positive learning environment since we believe a child learns more if he enjoys his learning experience.

THE PRIMARY PURPOSE of the school is to meet the needs of the children in Almaty who require this type of education with a view to continuing their education in their home countries with a minimum of adjustment problems. This program is also offered to Kazakhstani citizens who seek this education with a view to higher studies outside of Kazakhstan. In addition to its scholastic goals, the school endeavors to provide its students with a knowledge of Kazakhstan.

THE CURRICULUM includes English (reading, grammar, composition, keyboarding, and spelling), mathematics, cultural studies (history, geography, economics, etc.), science, computer literacy, art, music, physical education and Russian as part of the regular program. Intensive English classes are provided for those with a limited knowledge of the English language. Textbooks are loaned to students without charge.
The secondary program offers students, in addition to the standard subjects, electives in drama, journalism, current affairs, computer, fitness, team sports, lifetime sports, health, art, music, French, Spanish, and Russian. AP courses in physics, history, literature, and English language are available as well as opportunities for research projects, community service and special projects. Secondary students have the opportunity each year to take an excursion week that has recently included field trips to Rome, Greece, Slovenia, and China.

Almaty International School has been accredited through Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools, Pennsylvania, USA.
