Cambodia - Siem Reap area (northwest)
School:Schoof for Children of Cambodia

Schools for Children of Cambodia currently supports five schools with over 2000 children between them.

Schools for Children of Cambodia partners with local communities to improve access and quality of education. We achieve this objective through three programs:

School Adoption
SCC adopts existing government-run primary schools that struggle to provide access to quality education to the children in their communities. We facilitate meetings with school administrators, teachers, parents, and local authorities to identify a community's education needs and together, implement appropriate solutions. Solutions may include:

Building classrooms, libraries and computer labs. We ensure that school facilities accommodate all children in the community and provide access to a range of educational opportunities.

Supplementing teachers' government salaries. To ensure that education is accessible to all, we provide teachers with living wages so that no informal school fees are collected from students.

Supplementing schools' operational budgets. SCC empowers school administrators and teachers to equip their schools with the materials they need through monthly stipends.

Providing access to life skills classes. We assist schools to offer extra-curricular classes to provide a well-rounded education to students.

Providing capacity-building to teachers and school administrators. SCC-sponsored school exchange visits and in-service training allow school staff to share best practices and refine their teaching practices.
SCC currently supports five primary schools, through which 2,042 students have access to free education.

Student Sponsorship
SCC sponsors academically-inclined students who graduate from SCC-supported primary schools and who are at-risk of dropping out of school for financial reasons. Through our student sponsorship program, secondary and high school students receive school uniforms and school supplies as well as a monthly stipend to cover the cost of exam papers and class fees. SCC currently supports 29 students who are studying in grades 7 through 12.

Extra-Curricular English Classes
SCC English classes, taught by native-speaking volunteers, give students enrolled in SCC-supported primary schools and students under SCC sponsorship basic language skills. Lessons are secondary to Khmer classes, which are taught in-line with the national Cambodian curriculum, but are nonetheless important. Teaching the children English enhances their education and is a start to opening up future employment opportunities in an area where levels of tourism and trade are rapidly expanding.

Who We Are
Schools for Children of Cambodia (SCC) are an independent non -profit organisation, registered as a British charity, that is led by a voluntary Board of Trustees based in the UK and Australia, a Management Team in Siem Reap and a Leadership Team made up of dedicated long-term volunteers who all have a common interest in Cambodia and its future.

Where We Operate
Schools for Children of Cambodia currently focuses its efforts in Siem Reap province. This northwest province is world-famous for the Angkor temple ruins which attract nearly 2 million tourists each year. Despite its growing tourism industry, Siem Reap continues to be among the three poorest provinces in Cambodia. Nearly half of its 776,000 residents are considered impoverished. Although Siem Reap is a predominantly agricultural province with 6.6% of the nation's land area, its rice productivity is the lowest in the country
