Bali’s Most Attractive Attractions
By:Lek Boonlert

Visitors to Bali over the years have regularly stated that they find the island itself to be the biggest overall attraction to holidaying there, there is not one thing or element of a trip which jumps out in particular as a highlight – indeed the island itself is the highlight.

Bali’s resorts and destinations are the reason to visit this beautiful island, where accommodation ranges from the sumptuous and luxurious to cute boutique hotels to cheap Bali resorts, but the visitor can rest assured that they will never have been anywhere like it. The resorts which chiefly attract visitors to Bali include:

Denpasar – the capital of the island and essentially Bali’s spiritual centre, Denpasar offers visitors the chance to luxuriate in some absolutely first rate hotels but is also home to other cheap Bali hotels, and the capital is also the centre of the shopping industry on the island. There’s that materialistic bit – Pasar Badung market is legendary with visiting tourists and the place to pick up those all-important souvenirs of your trip. Be prepared to barter or bargain in the marketplace however, as bartering is an essential part of the shopping experience on Bali.

Kuta – a different vibe altogether from the island’s capital, Kuta is the entertainment centre of Bali boasting the best nightlife the island has to offer as well as some of the most stunning beaches on earth. White sands stretch away into the distance and emerald waters lap at the shore while in the evening there are numerous quality restaurants, fun bars and nightclubs for those who want a later night to visit.

Ubud – renowned as the island’s cultural centre, Ubud is home to Bali’s best museums and galleries, so gives the visitor another side to the paradise island away from the hurly-burly of the marketplace and the scorching sunshine of the beach. Ubud is the place to go to check out ancient Balinese art and paintings and the town enjoys a more temperate climate than the island’s beach resorts.

Tuban – something different again for the visitor who wants a holiday truly away from it all. Tuban was in years gone by a native fishing village where the locals subsisted on what they could catch from the seas and also made a living selling their catch in the capital’s market. These days Tuban is a more modernised tourist destination but there are still glimpses of Bali’s history to be seen all around the resort. A must-visit for those who like to see a perfect marriage of old and new with high quality restaurants, hotels and all the other mod cons which one would expect of a holiday destination to be found.
