If you are considering teaching English in HCMC,Viet Nam, I suggest you think again! Due to recent Vietnamese and HCMC Laws, you must provide a 'mountain' of paperwork to teacher here. New laws insist you have a university degree, TEFL or TESOL, a background check of criminal history notorized by your home country's government, local district criminal check in your home residence area of Viet Nam, a business passport, a work contract/permit issued by a licenced school, at least a 6 month visa, a mandatory physical from a Vietnamese hospital, and pay all the fees yourself. Last but not least, you pay a compulsary tax of up to 25% of your wages over 20 million VND, and 10% over 8 million.
This recent enactment of law was initiated to keep out the 'backpacker' teachers, and try to improve the quality of teaching here. It is also being given a boost by local TEFL and TESOL centers to raise their enrollment and of course-make more money.
On top of all this, you will find Vietnames studets; lazy, cheaters, complainers, and having little knowledge of the outside world and its events.
To let you know...Jody.
