If you hold a legitimate 2 year diploma *and* your TESOL is recognized, you can get legal work in Taiwan. I have a diploma and a TEFL certificat that is recognized and will soon be on my second work visa.
It's not Thailand, but it's legit work and it pays well. During the year there should be one or two week-long holidays and a trip to Thailand would be possible.
