Travel, Teach, Live in China
The university has the authorization, so what? They issue you with a Z visa and when you are there they put you in "Joe's apartment". You get frequent water and power failure and not getting paid on a regular basis. What are you going to do? Trust me , you're in for hell.
I came to China on a tourist visa in 2001 and the first university offered me a job (14hrs) with a salary of 4000. I saw the flat the wanted to put me in and it almost scared me out of my skin . The second university I went to offered me only 3000 (18 hrs) and when I saw the apartment and the campus, I signed on the dotted lined without hesitation. They had my visa changed within a week. Well, I had 2 wonderful years there.
Sorry Sara, I'm not try to put you off. The university that offered you the job may be an excellent one or it could be your most dreaded nightmare in waiting. It would be better if you go over on a tourist visa and have a first hand look yourself, and if things don't look good, take a walk. There are still lots of schools out there in looking for teachers. Good luck.
