No, you don't need a degree to teach in China unless you're teaching at a university. You DO need one for Korea, Taiwan and Japan and Hong Kong and regulations are rigidly enforced in those places.
If you're working in China, you really should have a Z-Visa, but to be honest, a lot of teachers work on the F visas and don't have a problem.
