Pingdingshan Uinversity, a full-time undergraduate academy, is located in the southeast of the new city zone of Pingdingshan City.

It is close to the Pingxihu Reservoir, near the mountain and by the riverside; with such beautiful sights it is a rightful place for the university students to be engaged in study and to develop their intelligence. Founded in 1977, Pingdingshan University has a solid foundation of education and scientific research.

Pingdingshan University has an excellent staff of near 1000, including over 230 professors or associate professors. More than 300 teachers have acquired master's or doctor's degree. Among all the teaching staff, more than 60 teachers are winners of “special government allowance of State Department”, or "Outstanding Experts of Henan Province", or “Zeng Xianzi Education Fund”, or "Outstanding Teachers and Educators of China", or "Outstanding Teachers of Henan Province", or “provincial leader of the trans-century learning and technology”, or “excellent provincial youth backbone teachers”. The University has invited over 60 academicians of Chinese Academy of Sciences and Chinese Academy of Engineering and well-known professors and experts as part-time professors or visiting professors.

The University comprises 15 schools and colleges offering 74 specialties, which include the School of Chinese Language and Literature, the School of Foreign Languages, the College of Math and Information Science, the College of Economy and Management, the College of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, the College of Electrical and Information Engineering, the College of Computer Science and Technology, the Software Department, the Teachers Training College, the College of Politics and Law, the Environment and Geography Department, the Physical Education Department, the Department of Music, and the Department of Fine Arts.

It is a comprehensive university with 7 disciplines: literature, science, technology, law, history, management and education, and the enrolled number of full-time students are 14,000, with over 8,000 adult students. Besides these it also sets up the Adult Education College, the Department of Public English, the Politics Ideology Education Department and the Research Center of Elementary Education.
