The Institute offers degree level courses, and foreign teachers teach both English majors and students from other disciplines.

The 'old' campus, where teachers live, is right near the centre of Huai'an which is a bustling, modern town with a climate much like that of Macau, hot and humid in summer, not too cold in winter.

Foreign teachers are housed in very decent, modern flats on the old campus which is within walking distance of all amenities and major markets and shopping centres, as well as having local shops, supermarket, a famous restaurant and small cafes outside the gates. Both campuses also offer several very good dining halls providing cheap and tasty menus.

The new campus is 15 to 20 minutes from the old campus by university bus and may also be reached, easily, by public bus. Teachers may teach on either or both campuses. Both campuses are well-kept, with attractive parks and ponds.

Huaiyin Institute of Technology ( HYIT ) is a multi-discipline engineering institute which offers undergraduate education in economics, management, literature, agronomy and natural sciences under Jiangsu Province Education Commission. HYIT has a 48-year history of excellence in teaching, learning and scientific research. It has 3 campus covering an area about 350 acres.

HYIT now has 2 schools, namely: School of Life Sciences and Chemical Engineering and School of Economics and Management, 10 departments and divisions, namely: Mechanical Engineering Department, Electronics and Information Engineering Department, Computer Engineering Department, Civil Engineering Department, Transportation Engineering Department, Foreign Languages Department, Human Culture & Social Sciences Department, Information and Computing Sciences Department and Design Arts Department. Mechanical Engineering Discipline is the major-building discipline in Jiangsu Province and Mechanical Design and Automation Discipline is the distinctive discipline in the province. Digital Manufacture Technique Laboratory is the major-building laboratory in the province. Biological Engineering Specialty is the building base of characteristic specialty in the province. HYIT also has a Salt-chemistry Engineering Research Center, 3 experiment teaching demonstration centers, 7 co-building laboratory centers shared with HYIT and Huai’an Municipality. The complete and advanced research facilities offer a platform for cultivating excellent professionals and scientific research.

HYIT enrolls students who pass the national examination for entrance to universities and colleges. It has more than 30,000 graduates engaging in different fields. HYIT emphasizes cultivation of applied professionals and development of students’ comprehensive quality and student ability in employment competition. It actively explores employment market and offers excellent service for student employment.

HYIT is taking active steps in international communications. It has established cooperative relations in school-running programs with many foreign universities, such as computer certificate program with Singapore Genetic Computer College, computer certificate program with NIIT Company, India and cooperation undergraduate programs in Finance, Computer Science and Agriculture with Univertisity of New England, Australia.

HYIT has already sent quite a few faculty and students training and studying in U.S.A., U.K., Canada, Japan, German as well as some experts from U.S.A., U.K., Canada, Australia and New Zealand teaching on campus.
