Fuzhou University is located in the historic city, Fuzhou, in Fujian Province which is situated along the southeast coast of China. The University occupies two compact purpose-built campuses. The old campus is at the western part of Fuzhou City, neighboring the famous Xichan Temple and the picturesque Minjiang River. Watching old campus from the other side of Minjiang River, the new campus is built at the foot of Qi Mountain of Shangjie District, Minhou County of Fuzhou City.

At present, Fuzhou University has an enrollment of more than 26,000 full-time students, including over 3,600 doctoral and master’s degree students, and over 22300 undergraduate and junior college students. In addition, there are over 1660 graduate students studying for different professional degrees and over 7900 students of adult education. Since establishment of the University, more than 88,500 students with various degrees graduated from the University. The University has been approved by the Ministry of Education to offer undergraduate and postgraduate programmes to students from Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan regions and foreign countries.

The University has established collaborative relationship with scores of domestic universities and institutes and has been endeavoring to improve cooperation with enterprises and local organizations so as to meet the demands of regional and national economic development. Academic exchanges on science, teaching and culture with Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macao regions have been actively carried out, taking advantage of the relationship of Two-side of the Straits and Three-region and focusing on cultural exchanges between Fujian and Taiwan. The University has established a favorable collaborative relationship with more than 20 universities in different countries, such as the United States, the United Kingdom, Germany, France, Russia, Japan, South Korea and so on. International education cooperation programmes developed with the University of Hertfordshire and the University of Ulster in UK and the State of Rheinland-Pfalz in Germany have been performed. The University is also engaged in positively promoting the exchanges between Chinese civilization and western civilization. “Library of the Western Belvedere”, the first western works center in China, and Institute of International Sinology have been established. Professor Kristofer Marinus Schipper, an internationally famous sinologist and member of the Royal Dutch Academy of Arts and Sciences, has been working long time in the University, engaging in academic research, exchange and teaching on sinology. The University has become an important window for internationally and regionally technological and cultural exchanges in Fujian Province.
