Shandong University of Science and Technology is a key university in Shandong Province of China. It offers multidisciplinary education in engineering, sciences, management, humanities, law, economics and education while giving prominence to engineering. The university is located in Qingdao, with two branches in Tai'an and Ji'nan. The university is directly under the leadership of the People's Government of Shandong Province and is supervised by the Education Department of Shandong Province.

The university has twelve academic colleges which offer undergraduate courses. It currently has five research centers for post-doctoral studies, three top disciplines and twenty-four disciplines for doctoral programs, five disciplines with "Taishan Scholar" professors, twelve top disciplines for master programs, seventy-seven master's degree programs, fourteen engineering research areas authorized to confer master's degrees, sixty-seven undergraduate programs. To date, the university has twenty-seven provincial/ministerial key disciplines with laboratories, including a key lab for the Ministry of Education (MOE) jointly financed by MOE and Shandong Province. It also has a key research base for social sciences and the humanities specially supported by Shandong Province, a key lab for Qingdao, an engineering research center for MOE and six provincial engineering and technological research centers. The university also provides a service center authorized by National Training Center for MIE (Manufacturing Information Engineering), MIE talent-training base for Qingdao, foreign language training center affiliated with the State Administration of Foreign Experts Affairs of China and Shandong-Russia Scientific and Technological Cooperation Center. Russian Academy of Natural Sciences has set up the China Science Center in the university, the only one in China.

There are now 29504 students enrolled in the university, including 211 doctoral candidates and 1490 postgraduates. It has 2818 faculty and staff. Of these, 1911 assume teaching tasks, 257 are professors, 411 are associate professors, three are academicians of Chinese Academy of Sciences, one is an academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering and five are foreign academicians of the Russian Academy of Natural Sciences. There are five professors with "Taishan Scholar" title, three State Class New Century Hundred-Thousand-Ten Thousand Talents Project candidates, five young and middle-aged experts with outstanding contributions at the national level, fifty-eight teaching staff enjoying special national governmental allowances, five young or middle-aged experts with outstanding contributions at the provincial level, thirty-seven provincial and ministerial top-level professionals, and 125 supervisors of doctoral candidates.

The university actively participates in international exchanges and cooperation with a view to promoting the internationalization of education. It has cooperative relationships with seventy-five higher education institutions and research institutes in fifteen countries across the world, including the United States, Japan, Germany, Russia and France. With these countries the university has nearly fifty international scientific and technological cooperation programs. Much headway has been made in promoting cultural exchanges, faculty exchanges, training sabbaticals and joint postgraduate programs. International students come from countries such as Japan, Russia, the United States, France, South Korea, Germany, Mongolia and Pakistan etc. To date, the university has established six Sino-foreign joint laboratories. And more than twenty faculty are members of various international academic organizations. It also hosts and co-sponsors large-scale international academic conferences each year.
