Shanghai (Hongqiao and Pudong campuses)
School:Shanghai Community International School

Preschool to Grade 12.

Shanghai Community International Schools is pleased to announce that the SCIS Hongqiao Campus has been authorized to begin teaching the International Baccalaureate Diploma Program next school year to our grade 11 class! Congratulations go to the staff and administration who worked very hard to qualify SCIS for this new challenge. It is important to mention specifically that the quality of the staff scheduled to have IB teaching assignments, the Hongqiao student body, and the overwhelming community support demonstrated during the authorization visit, were the reasons that SCIS garnered approval so quickly.

The opportunities which providing both the Advanced Placement program (at SCIS Pudong and Hangzhou) and the International Baccalaureate program (at SCIS Hongqiao) will give SCIS students are significant, and a new milestone for school! We expect that in the years to come, the same high levels of success enjoyed by our AP students will also be enjoyed by our IB students.

SCIS graduates to date have found success at their institutes of higher learning in North America, Europe, Australia, and Asia, proving that the AP program has served our international student body very well thus far, but adding the IB affords SCIS students additional breadth in the curriculum.

“Both IB and AP curricula demonstrate that students are willing and able to take academic and personal challenges which will prepare them for life at the post secondary school level”, said SCIS College Guidance Counselor, Andrew Lowman.

“What also matters is the setting in which a student achieves these distinctions,” continued SCIS Hongqiao Upper School Principal, Jeff Stubbs. “The IB and the AP programs both take on the flavor of the school in which they are delivered, so the school’s core values and beliefs are still imparted on students.” SCIS students, regardless of their IB or AP selection, will still be attuned to the school’s Expected School Wide Learning Results which include developing a Solid Foundation of Knowledge while integrating Higher Level Thinking, Global and Community Appreciation, Effective Communication, and Positive Learning Attitudes into daily studies.

Shanghai Community International Schools are fully accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges
and the National Council of Curriculum and Textbooks
