Hefei University is approved as a state-run university combined Hefei Union University and Hefei Education College according to Document 46 [2002] issued by the State Education Ministry on 14th of March, 2002.

At present Hefei University has two districts which are named as the North District and the South District. The two districts cover 51 ha. together, in which the schoolhouse capacity covers 278 thousand square meters. The total equipment for education values about 40.00 millions RMB Yuan. There are 0.35 million books in the library. There are totally more than 660 staff,including more than 430 professional teachers and 140 professors and associate professors. Totally there are more than 9000 students of four-year and three-year education, more than 3000 students of adult education and more than 50 foreign students.

The University has the Department of Chemistry and Materials Engineering, Department of Computer and Information Engineering, Department of Biological Science and Technology, Department of Mechanical Engineering, Department of Construction Engineering, Department of Mathematics and Physics, Department of Chinese Language and Literature, Department of Foreign Languages and Literature, Department of Social Science and Management, Department of Economics, Department of Education, Department of Travel, Department of Art and Design. There are totally 13 departments and more than 40 specialties. Besides, there are Adult Higher Education College, Computer and Network Center, Institute of Higher Professional Technology, German Training Center of Anhui Province, Teaching Research Division of Chinese Education for Foreigner (approved by Provincial Education Bureau and filed by State Education Ministry), Institute of Applying Chemical Engineering, Institute of Dairy Product, Examination Office of Computer Grade of Provincial Education Bureau, Institute of Computer, Institute of Architecture Engineering and Environment Inspection and so on.

The university has established the cooperation and exchange relations with 10 countries mainly including Germany, United Kingdom, Korea, Japan and Australia. Since 2000, the cooperation and exchange of the University with the universities outside have been improved. The agreements of cooperation and exchange with 9 universities of applying science and technology in Niedersachsen Osnabrück, and Haseo University and Hanan University in Korea. The university will enroll students abroad for studying Chinese language and literature and send a lot of students to study for master degree in Germany and Korea. The university has sent 59 students to Germany and Korea in 2001 and 156 students in 2002. According to the agreements, the university will send more than 200 students to these two countries. And the number of sending student will be increased year after year.
