Guilin Medical University is an average undergraduate course university directly under the administration of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region. Its preexistence, sponsored by Guangxi Province, was Guilin Advanced Nurse Midwives School built in 1935, and then it was renamed as “Guilin Medical School in 1958, and in 1987 it was promoted and authorized as “Guilin Medical University” and qualified to provide undergraduate education. In 1996, it went straight through undergraduate teaching work evaluation by Original State Education Council. What’s more, it gained the power to grant postgraduate master’s degrees. In a word, Guilin Medical University gives priority to Clinical Medicine and also integrates Pharmacy, Biological Engineering, Medical Inspection as well as Nursing into a multi-major harmonious development. It has stronger comprehensive power to run a college and also has had a definite influence in and out of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region.

This university consists of 9 subordinate colleges, including the college of Basic Medicine, the college of Clinical Medicine, the college of Nanxi Shan Clinical Medicine，the second college of Clinical Medicine, the third college of Clinical Medicine, the college of Pharmacy, the college of Biological Engineering, the college of Nursing and the college of Further Education, together with 3 teaching departments including the department of Human Social Science, the department of Foreign Languages, and the department of Physical Education. Additionally, there is one affiliated hospital directly under it, as well as 4 locally affiliated hospitals and 21 teaching hospitals.

The university has a reasonably-diversified and highly-qualified group of teachers. There are 516 authorized full-time teachers, 198 of whom have high professional titles and 278 of whom have a Master’s degree or above, accounting for 38.37% and 53.88% of the total full-time teachers respectively. In addition, there are 30 supervisors of postgraduates, three of whom also work as supervisors of doctors. Six teachers have gained special subsidy from State Council. Four teachers have been recognized as among “the excellent teachers from all around the country” respectively. Two teachers have been appraised and chosen as one of the “Distinguished Teachers” in Guangxi colleges, and four other teachers are the second-leveled candidates of “The Talented Project ” in Guangxi province.

At present, the university offers five areas of undergraduate academic programs, including Clinical Medicine, Pharmacy, Biotechnology, Nursing, and Medical Examination, with Clinical Medicine being the major area of study within the province of Guangxi. All of these programs are available for students across the country.? Currently, there are approximately 5,790 full-time students, of whom 3,446 students are pursuing in the field of medicine. The general undergraduate course has fervently opened its door to 16 provinces and regions from all over China since 2000.
