English schools in China

Guangdong - Huizhou
School:Greatway Language School (GLS)

GLS (Greatway Language School) is a well-established language training school in South-East China serving students aged 4 to 50. We have many qualified full-time foreign English teachers who work along side our Chinese teachers and assistants.

Greatway provides up-to-date teaching resources and maintains a supportive and upbeat environment in which to teach. Our teacher training program, along with our regular meetings and workshops, is designed to foster constant professional development and build the necessary tools for success.

Living in Huizhou
Huizhou is a developing city in Southeast China, Guangdong province, close to Shenzhen and Guangzhou (Canton). Its population is roughly 3,216,300.

With the recent improvements in China's aviation system it is possible to be anywhere in China within a few hours, but buses and trains are still the cheap alternative for most travelers. They also offer a dazzling trip through the countryside entirely missed by flying. Huizhou is under a day's journey from some of China's most beautiful regions such as Guilin and Guizhou, or even the Vietnamese border. Trains and buses run regularly to Beijing, Guangzhou, Shenzhen and Hong Kong.

The city is centered around an attractive lake – a popular spot for people visiting from Hong Kong and Taiwan. There are parks and hills around Huizhou. Luo Fu Mountain and Tang Quan waterfall and hot springs are a short drive away. The seaside is less than an hour's drive away and is really very beautiful.

Guangdong can feel very hot and humid during the summer months with temperatures in the 30 degree region and humidity at around 80 percent. There are also occasional typhoons. Spring and fall are also hot but far less humid. Temperatures in winter don’t drop very low, and Huizhou never sees snow, but without central heating in any of the buildings the cold is quite noticeable so bring a few warm clothes.

Mandarin is the official language of China and the most widely spoken language in Huizhou. Locals speak the local dialects (Huizhou dialect and Hakka) and Cantonese is also popular. Learning Chinese may seem frustrating at first, but basic grammar is simple and it's not hard to learn enough for simple conversations fairly quickly. Chinese are keen for foreigners to learn Chinese and are generally very patient and helpful.
