ESL Teaching and Learning Tips
Hello
I don't know what age group you are teaching, but every one that I have taught enjoys being read to and having stories told to them (especially if they are about, or include, them).
1. Use as much expression as you can, and act out the various parts/actions/characters as you can. Encourage your students to try their hands (and bodies?) at re-telling the tales or stories that you've read to them.
2. Re-invent children's stories, using your students' names and (pointing to the student) have them give animal sounds, places, characters, etc to "help" you to tell the story.
e.g. Once upon a time, a long time ago, in a country far away, there lived a big/little {...}, named {...}. One day,{...} went to see his/her {...}. Along the way he/she met a {...}.
...and so on.
Make the story as long or as short as you like. And, above all, Have Fun! with it.
