ESL Teaching and Learning Tips
Dear: Dr. Yanni Zack.
Hi.
I am a japanese, working in a preschool setting (3~5 students in a class, devided into close age groups) which has just opened few month ago. Students come to our school for 4 hrs, 1day/week. The age ranges from 1 yr & 8mnts to 2 & 11mnts. It's their first time to learn English.
I need help with...
1:how to schedule a day & lessons for the age group
2:What(curriculum) & how(how much I should use Japanese to explain or get them to learn English) to teach
3:Class management (to form a circle, run a schedule as a "language school" not a "daycare")
4:Mothers' lesson curriculum(descipline, praises... etc.)
Our school doesn't have a curriculum and it's my first time to teach English, so I don't have a clue. As for the class management, I sing "Holding Hands", some come to do so, but most of the time, it's just me singing & running around the room...Students spend most of a day playing.
Also, we'll open new classes next month. one of the lesson is with mothers & children as young as 10 months old. 45min for kids & 30min for mothers(we teach daily english such as discipline sentences & praises). and another is for over 18 months without their mothers for an hour.I need help with simply everything...I've been looking for books & sites;however, I haven't found any for the targeted age group.
If you have any suggestion, reccomendation of books, sites...etc anything is welcome.
Thank you.
