ESL Teaching and Learning Tips
Hi,
I have a question regarding the tutoring of ESL students in a college writing center. I am a student at a local JC and work part-time in the writing center. The writing center helps students (NES and ESL) with compositions in a peer setting. All of us (except our director) are English only speakers and feel intimidated or frustrated sometimes when working with an ESL student. We have 30 minutes to work with a student. The communication gap can be so wide sometimes that the session seems fruitless. What advice or tips can you give to help facilitate these tutoring sessions?
Thanks
P.S Common problems are articles, prepositions, word choice....especially when to use "in", "at", "to", "for"....etc..
