Hey! I'm a Filipino too! and reading is not the only way to teach English to your tutee. It must be a boring tutorial session. Try some activity that yur tutee can grasp not somthing theoritical, something that can compliment with their nature as a kid(s, try to be a kid, put yourself to your tutee's place, know him/her from there you can draw your strategies. Remember Koreans are visual learners it is easier for them to learn if they visualize and grasp. Try "learning by doing"...Teach something that your student can use.
Believe me as an Academic and Instructional Development Officer in one of the language schools here in the Philippines, we had a lot because of poor English background. I've worked in Korea as a guest professor... itayo mo bandera natin, mas mabuti pa ang pinoy kay sa mga native speakers-wala silang sinabi... kukunti lang sa kanila ang talagang guro...
