ESL Teaching and Learning Tips
Dear Readers of ESL Teaching Tips and Strategies:
Welcome to a new year, 2006, which will be filled with new ideas and teaching strategies.
First off, many have asked if having a MA in TESOL is really necessary in order to teach ESL.
The answer to this question would depend on what level of ESL students you want to work with.
If your goal is to work only with elementary students, then having either a TEFL Certificate or CELTA Certificate would be sufficient.
However, if you want to teach at the College or University level, then having a MA in TESOL or MA in Linguistics is required in order to obtain a position.
The MA in TESOL or MA in Linguistics will enable you to become either a full-time Instructor at the Community College Level, or a part-time Adjunct Instructor in a University Setting.
Also, having a MA in TESOL or MA in Linguistics Degree will enable you to earn a higher salary than merely having a TEFL or CELTA Certificate.
