ESL Teaching and Learning Tips
I am student teacher and I am dealing with a noisy middle school classroom. The are out of control. I cannot scream over them. It's an inner city school in a bad neighborhood. My cooperating teacher is of no help, because when they start yelling he just sits back and relaxes(even during my first days). He has poor control over his own classes. He gave me his worst class( he told me privately he hopes not to get them next year).
Detentions, Switching seats, calling home, talking privately to students did not help. I have never seen a classroom like this. It's like being put in a madhouse in the middle of a school year.
I taught in a good high school last year. The kids there were awesome.
I feel awful, because I try my best to teach these middle schoolers, but they are out of control. No discipline.
Last week I was observed by my college supervisor and the kids were out of control. I felt so embarrassed, I thought about giving up teaching. Also, my cooperating teacher tends to correct my lesson during the class by telling students that they don't have to do the entire work, they can just do the part of it. If kids missed homework, he can just tell them to turn it in on a later date.
Any tips on how should I get thorough the next few months of this hell?
