Words have the power to create and destroy. Words are your representatives. "Words are creation of self and every time you open your mouth, you give the world a glimpse into who you really are."Ashley Highland.
Negative words can cause deep-seeded hurt and be destructive. Positive words can encourage people and move them toward greater accomplishment and self-esteem. Those little words -- "please", "thank you", and "job well done" – when said sincerely and merited – can have very strong impact.

Schrauf, associate professor of applied linguistics and an anthropologist at Penn State, has long been interested in how people process words that express emotions. So he set out with a graduate student in psychology, Julia Sanchez, to see if there was much of a difference in two different age groups in Mexico City and Chicago. In both cities, two sets of participants, one in their 20s and the other in their 60s, were asked to jot down as many words as they could in two minutes that express emotion. Then they were asked whether each word was positive, negative or neutral.

"I found this surprising result," Schrauf says. "Half of all the words that people produce from their working vocabulary to express emotion are negative. And 30 percent are positive and 20 percent are neutral."

We tend to listen to negative news and the movies and television programmes fill our minds with filth. Our minds are adjusted to these negative forces and we find it hard to express our positive emotions. If you think you are leading a miserable life, hold on a minute. What are you thinking about right now? Listen to your vocabulary. Are they positive or negative? People who are depressed often think negatively about themselves. The following is a list of negative words typically used in this context - they not only make you unhappy but also make things even worse. Such words include:

· Empty
· Impossible
· Ugly
· Weak
· Hopeless
· Loser
· Failure
· Bad person

Negative words trigger negative feelings such as:

· Anxiety
· Anger
· Frustration
· Disappointment
· Shame
· Guilt

The more you confess negative words, the more you feel unwanted emotions. Until you remove the negative vocabulary from your mind, you won’t be able to lead a happy life. Do you feel depressed and lonely? Check out your vocabulary.
