Do you want to travel and earn money by teaching English abroad?

Whether you are a young fresh graduate seeking to have a fun job experience or a professional just wanting something new and exciting, you can work as an English teacher in foreign countries. The demand for these workers is greater than ever and still rising as you read this. Countries in Asia, Europe, Africa, and South America are in need of English instructors to teach their citizens, both young and old.

The allure of this job is enormous. Not only that there are plenty of available jobs to be filled, the countries that have the vacancies are great destination locations for people with wanderlust. Although the pay may vary in every country or institution, generally, the compensation is excellent especially for individuals with good credentials.

Getting certification will be the first thing to do if you want to work overseas as an English teacher. TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) and TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language) are just two of the certificate giving bodies in the industry. Along with TESL (Teaching English as a Second Language), these acronyms can be used interchangeably and they are normally dependent to the country you are from.

There is also CELTA (Certificate in English Language Teaching to Adults); a much more expensive but highly valued certification that you can use to get hired. Apparently, this can get confusing. So, you're best bet is to choose the certificate in which is more valued by your preferred location.

Training, tutorials, and exams for certifications can be taken in an in-classroom course or can be achieved online.

Teaching overseas has a lot of variables and options. As an aspiring traveling instructor, you must research and determine which sources are the most dependable. You will also want to inquire about the positives and the negatives of every job listing in this industry. Teaching in some countries, the salary may appear hefty but the cost of living in the place could also be extremely expensive.

Take your time when deciding. Always get all of the information beforehand. Having said that, you can never really know what it is like to live and work in another country until you have experienced it but at least, you will know a little bit about what to expect. Some jobs may offer less wages but requires less commitment and provides more freedom. Some may compensate extravagantly but the work may demand more and may require full commitment.

Asian countries especially China are significantly lenient when it comes to qualifications and the freedom for workers is admirable. Make sure that any agency or school that you sign up with is legitimate and check with your local embassy before reporting to any new assignment.

Sometimes, the organizations that granted you the training and qualifications could offer you a job immediately after passing their examinations. They may give you job options and you can safely bet that these jobs are legit and could be great.

In conclusion, being an overseas English teacher is great. The career offers great experiences and the financial rewards can be excellent. Still, you must make inquiries and weigh things carefully before deciding on an assignment.
