The term "blog" is pretty standard now. This is probably why it earned a place in the Merrian-Webster's Dictionary . For a small and relatively new word, the noun blog has an impressive history: originally short for "weblog", which it has virtually replaced, blog spawned the nouns "blogger" (one who writes a blog) and "blogging" (I think this one is technically a gerund). Recently, blog has also become a verb (although not "officially" I guess if Webster's is the guide for standardization). Even though Webster's doesn't list it as such, I've heard blog used as a verb as in " I'm going to blog about that" or "I'm blogging right now". In English we create new nouns and verbs constantly, so, even for native speakers, the learning process continues.
