IELTS Tutor

Hi,

Today I would like to talk about the speaking element of the test, and outline exactly what happens.

For a lot of people this is the most worrying part of of the test. However with proper practice and knowledge of what to expect, you will have a better chance of scoring higher.

Lets outline the speaking test.

The speaking part usually is about 10-14 mins long and has 3 different parts. You will start by talking about everyday life in part 1 and then moves on to more a specific question with interview questions in the third part.

PART 1 Normally about 12-13 questions / easy everyday topics / Short answers / 3-4 mins long.
PART 2 You will get a "cue card" question / 60 seconds preparation time (you may take notes) / You speak for 2 mins
PART 3 This will be in a interview style / 4-5 Questions / It is based around Part 2 topic / About 4 minutes

How is the speaking Accessed?

The speaking part of the test is accessed by the examiner who you will speaking to. He will mark you at the time. It is worth noting that everything is recorded so if there is any further enquiry, they have a record.

The main parts you will be accessed on will be:
-Your Pronunciation
-Coherence and fluency
-Use of grammar
-Extended Vocabulary
