Dear Director,

My name is Amanda Laederich, I am an Oregon State University graduate with a B.A. in Foreign Language and International Literature. I have also received my TESL/TESOL/TEFL certificate through Oxford Seminars. Although the majority of my travel and language experience is mostly in European countries and language, I am open and excited for new adventures and experiences. I am currently interested in seeking an ESL teaching position working with students ranging in age from middle to high school because this is what most of my volunteer work experience is in. However, I am more than willing to teach younger children and adults.

I believe a successful teacher, has patience and compassion for their students. As a second language learner myself, I understand what is it to be confused and frustrated with certain aspects of a language. A good teacher has to be able to keep their calm with struggling students and be willing to change their teaching style, so everyone can benefit. A good teacher also learns from their students, keeping in mind that the classroom, isn’t just for the students nor does it belong solely to the teacher. Everyone is there to learn from everyone.

Although my work background consists of mainly customer service and kitchen jobs, I believe the environment has taught me much about being a good leader and teacher. In all of these jobs I have been in charge of training the incoming employees. I have taught everything from proper chemical use to mopping floors. My most relevant teaching experience in the field of ESL was when I lived in Beijing China, where I taught students ages 3-18 years of age. It taught me very quickly what worked and failed. This is where I also learned, to have compassion for none native speakers and what kind of teacher, I didn’t want to be.

I have included in my application my education, work experience, volunteer and ESL related experience. I feel as though I am qualified I hope you will take time to look over my resume. Thank you for your consideration.

Sincerely,

Amanda Laederich
