OBJECTIVES

To teach English in a progressive educational organization in which I can help English language learners to fulfill their academic and personal potential, and to continue to hone and expand my knowledge and skills as an educator.

QUALIFICATIONS

Teaching – Over twenty years of experience teaching English, in a broad range of teaching situations, including day-to-day and long-term substitute teaching, teaching ESL in both inner-city urban and rural environments and teaching Adult ESL in the U.S.A. I have been teaching English in Asia for eight years, at the middle school, high school and University levels in South Korea, as a Teacher Trainer and Mentor for the Malaysia Ministry of Education and as an Advanced Placement (AP) teacher in China. Since the summer of 2014, I have been teaching and tutoring English online to refine and expand the knowledge and skills I obtained from earning my Virtual Teaching certificate (teaching in online and “blended” environments) from the University of California, Irvine.

Sales/Marketing – ten years of working in the business arena, developing strong communication and collaboration skills

Training/Facilitating – fourteen years leading men’s support groups, which focus on helping men become better fathers, husbands, and community members

Volunteering – eleven years of experience leading and training volunteers for outdoor character-development youth programs, and fourteen years of experience leading conflict resolution classes and workshops

Responsibilities – Teaching and tutoring students of all ages (mostly high school and university students) via Skype and other video call platforms. Including oral language development, writing instruction, test preparation, (such as IELTS, TOEFL, TOEIC, SAT and others) business English and phonemic awareness with young learners

• Accomplishments—
-Consistently help raise the scores of students on various English proficiency tests
-Facilitate students gaining proficiency, ease and fluency in spoken and written English
-Assist employees and prospective employees to gain confidence for interviews and job promotions

Responsibilities – Teaching Advanced Placement (AP) Language Arts/Literature to high school students

• Accomplishments –
-Designed and implemented a Common Core State Standards-based curriculum
-Pioneered the first “blended” classroom at the school (combination of regular classroom work and online assignments)
-Developed the curriculum for and taught Environmental/Sustainability Education classes
-Launched and managed school’s first recycling program
-Initiated a new Disc Golf sports program for the school

Jan, 2013 – July, 2013 Teacher Trainer/Mentor, Malaysia Ministry of Education (through SMR HR Group), Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

Responsibilities – Working closely with 14 elementary school teachers to increase their English language proficiency, pedagogical and methodological awareness and the specific strategies and skills necessary to become more effective English teachers

• Accomplishments—
-Developed and implemented a unique phonics program integrating synthetic phonics with existing phonics program
-Created Interactive Word Walls in several classrooms, inspiring teachers to create and utilize more creative, visual and interactive classrooms

February, 2012 to January, 2013 Visiting Professor, Gyeongju University, Gyeongju, South Korea

Responsibilities – Teaching International English classes to all grade levels of university students, including developing innovative and engaging lessons, creative instruction utilizing many aspects of education technology and holistic assessment

• Accomplishments –
-Created a new class of “Special Sports” for the Physical Education Department
-Helped to launch the Gyeongju University Mentor Program

Responsibilities – Teaching middle and high school EFL, including all aspects of curriculum development, instruction and assessment

• Accomplishments –
- Helped develop and initiate a speaking assessment program for Jingyo Middle School.
- Taught a month-long intensive residential English training for 50 Korean English teachers at the Changwan Provincial Office of Education training facilities
- Developed curriculum for and taught both Winter and Summer English Camps for middle school students at the Hadong Provincial Office of Education training facilities, including developing an exciting “Learning English Through Sports” curriculum

Responsibilities – Teaching 7th and 8th grade “Core;” (Language Arts and Social Studies) in a challenging, low-income urban environment

• Accomplishments
-Increased student achievement in reading and writing an average of 1.5 grade levels
