My Employment History

Teaching Assistant at Wierdapark Primary
Jan 2014 - Current

My latest employment has been from 2014 to present, as a teaching assistant at Wierdapark
Primary school.

In this capacity I have successfully handled classes for teachers otherwise engaged, presented individual lessons in grade 7 English and grade 5 Afrikaans, been engaged in marking and testing, research, handling administrative duties and extra-curricular activities.

I was also officially under the supervision of the I T support head Johan O’Callaghan, and served as an IT support assistant in the maintenance of the school’s ICT framework. This included the maintenance of technology, error-checking, applying non-linear problem solving to software
issues, using interactive technology as a teaching aid, and assisting in the running
of Computer classes.

Reason for Leaving: Graduated BA Language Arts and Literature (English) & BA HONS Applied Linguistics (Second Language Acquisition: English), now seeking higher income and teaching career abroad.

Tertiary Tutor at Personal
Jul 2012 - Aug 2015
Temporary Intermediate in Gauteng, Pretoria Region

I have for the last three years also tutored university students in their English studies. This includes; managing study sessions, simplifying and explaining subject matter, proofreading and editing assignments, help with studying and summation, layout of assignments and written work, as well as simply offering insight and advice. They have also seen marked improvement in their feedback from their respective institutions.

Reason for Leaving: Wanted a more steady job, sought higher employment.

Archive and Display Designer at Trans-Oranje School for The Deaf
Jan 2012 - Jul 2012
Contract Junior in Gauteng, Pretoria Region

In 2012 I accepted a six month contract with Trans-Oranje School for the Deaf; with the purpose of establishing a visual archive for the school, as well as help plan the new media center to display South African (in general) and Deaf cultural heritage. This not only proved to exercise my skills in a practical application of History, aesthetics, and the creative exhibition of culture, but also led to great insights into how children acquire language.

Reason for Leaving: Position was only budgeted for a 6 month period.
