Exploring Turkey

Turkey is such an interesting country as it has so much to offer for its visitors. From natural scenic wonders, unique historical and archeological sites, modern infrastructures, a warm locals and reasonable prices, there is no question why this country has become one of the most visited in the world. Because Turkey is blessed with wide beautiful beaches on all three sides, the summers become longer that it could even last up to 8 months in some areas. Its shores are covered with beaches, bays, coves, ports, islands and peninsulas. Aside from the beaches, its topography is also abundant of mountains, valleys, lakes, rivers, and waterfalls that also offer many sporting activities.

Turkish is the official language of the country. It is spoken by approximately 220 million people and it ranks 5th as world's most widely used language. Aside from Turkey, the language is also spoken in Cyprus. It is also spoken in some portions of Iraq, Greece, Bulgaria, the Republic of Macedonia, and Kosovo, Albania and in the other portions of Eastern Europe. Written Turkish uses the Latin alphabet with the addition of 6 different characters. Turkish is completely phonetic where each letter of the alphabet has only one sound. Meaning each word sounds exactly the way it is written.

Turkish cuisine is noted as one of the world's best, along with French and Chinese cuisine. The characteristic of the Turkish cuisine is based on the variety of recipes, use of natural ingredients, flavors and tastes. Turkish cuisine was refined by experience through the course of time and influences from other parts of the world such as Europe, Asia, the Middle East and Africa. The variety and simplicity of the recipes being used and the quality of the ingredients are what makes-up the Turkish cuisines' delicious meals.

This country has been a shopper's paradise for centuries, offering a wide range of products from handicrafts, jewellery, antiques, and local designer brands. Turkey's largest city and business capital, Istanbul, offers the widest variety when it comes to shopping. From its local street bazaars to more than 135 modern shopping malls located all over the country, Turkey is no doubt one of the world's best shopping destinations.

The top tourist attractions to see in this country are St. Sophia Museum, Blue Mosque-Sultan Ahmet Camii, Pamukkale, Ephesus, Cappadocia Region, Pergamon, Sardis, Aspendus, Commagene Kingdom at Mt. Nemrut, Gallipoli-Canakkale, City of Safranbolu, Hattusha (Bogazköy), Xanthos-Letoon, Great Mosque and Hospital of Divrigi, Archaeological Site of Troy, Hierapolis-Pamukkale, Goreme National Park and the Rock Sites of Cappadocia. Some of these sites are listed as world heritage as to UNESCO.
