Avignon Climate - The Best Time To Visit Avignon, France

The brilliant and spectacular city of Avignon is the best place to visit in Provence. 39 towers and 7 gates scattered fortifications surround the beautiful ancient city. The city is a famous tourist Hub as it homes so much for tourists like world renowned ancient monuments, famous museums, opera house, famous theatres, town squares, cafe life, famous Avignon festival and much more. One of the things that you need to take good care of before traveling to Avignon is its climate. Here is a snap-shot of the climate of Avignon and the best time to visit the fascinating historical city of popes.

Avignon Climate

Like all other tourist destinations, there are weathers to visit and enjoy Avignon and weathers to avoid your Avignon holiday. The city has a Mediterranean climate with long and hot summers and winters of Avignon are Mild. Temperatures along the coast use to be somewhat higher. Swimming in the Mediterranean here can be done as late as September and October. Maximum rainfall in Avignon occurs in spring i.e. from April to May.

From November to May Avignon there is a possibility of Mistral wind, a cold, dry north westerly wind that channels down the Rhone Valley, it can often reach 60 miles per hour (100km/hr). It is strongest and very frequent during winter and spring.

Avignon festival every year take place in July, it is preceded by a film festival during this time the whole town is rocking and full of tourists, it can be both best time as well as worst time to visit Avignon. Best time if you have done all the bookings and planning in advance. Worst time if you don't have advance bookings, it will be almost impossible to get a room.The best time of the year to plan your trip to the Provence is from June and September since weather is good and certain. Except these two months the weather is not very certain. May is somewhat hot; otherwise it is also a good time to visit Avignon.
