Ice Magic or the World of the Ice Giant is probably one of Austria’s most spectacular natural attractions. The location of the fabulous ice cave is hidden within the Austrian Alps, more specifically on the South side of Salzburg. The ice patterns are just remarkable and they’re certainly a wonder place to explore whenever you’re thinking about a trip to Austria.

Formerly known as the biggest ice cave in the world, the location is the deal spot of an explorer looking for a bit of adrenalin. Additionally opened to the general public, there’s no other place in Europe where you can find such a beautiful ice castle. And even if the temperatures within the place are freezing, the beautiful scenery will simply win your heart over. Mostly visited during the summertime, the World of the Ice Giant is also a great way to cool off and hide from the baking sun.

The limestone cave is called Eisriesenwelt and the exact location of the grotto is inside the Hochkogel Mountain. Visited by over 200,000 people annually, the famous ice cave features an area of nearly 42 km. It’s always fabulous to come across such marvelous places to visit every once in a while; Ice Magic is absolutely ravishing from so many points of view. Suitable for families with kids and groups, a complete tour will definitely leave you speechless.

The man who discovered the cave was Anton Posselt, a former scientist from Salzburg. He started his research in 1879 however he only managed to explore only a few meters of the cave at the time. After the building of a cable car in 1955, full access was provided towards the marvelous attraction. Hence, what was once a 90 minutes trip to the Ice Magic is now a 3 minute journey with the cable car.

At this point, the owner of Eisriesenwelt is the National Austrian Forest Commission who is constantly maintaining and protecting the cave. Opened annually from May to October, the Ice Magic is every traveler’s dreamlike vacation spot. Within the cavern visitors will have what to admire. The array of stalactites and stalagmites are simply breathtaking, not to mention the fact that the overall scenery is stunning.

Furthermore, in time the ice started gaining various shapes that are truly impressive and appealing for the general public. After a proper tour, extra facilities of the Ice Magic include a small restaurant at the bottom of the cable car. Have a break from the cold, enjoy a quick lunch and enjoy the time spend with your friends in Werfen, Austria.

Regarding costs and fees for the World of the Ice Giant, travelers should know that a standard ticket is €8.50 without the cable car services. Children will have a reduced ticket fee and they will only pay €4.50. Talking photos within the location is forbidden however there are various souvenir shops onsite where you can purchase postcards. Overall, Eisriesenwelt is one of Europe’s finest locations mostly because it’s unique and compelling for the people.
