Undiscovered Destination - Planning Your Holidays in Lithuania (Europe)
By:Christina Kelmyte

There are many great holiday destinations across the world, most of the tourists flock to European countries like Italy, England, France to get familiar with European culture. Lithuania is one of the lesser known holiday destinations, the country is a great holiday spot and one can engage in several exciting activities in Lithuania. Not many people visit Lithuania and it remains to be an undiscovered holiday destination. The country has one of the lowest population densities across the world, it is covered in dense forests and lakes. Lithuanian people usually can speak Russian and ~35%, especially younger people all speak English. Water tourism is a very good option for the tourists, but usually travel agencies do not mention this, because it is easier to show tourists sights in the cities, which are usually boring and similar like in all Europe.

Anyone looking to get familiar with nature and unique culture - Lithuania is going to be a perfect destination. There is one BUT - you should specifically ask travel agencies to show you the nature, visit best museums, get involved in local life. If you are going to travel on your own, you should try looking for someone local to advise you or find a guide. Most of Lithuanian people will gladly help you without even thinking about charging money.

There are several places that should be visited in the country: Curonian Spit, Labanoras regional park, The Park of Europe, Trakai Medieval Castle, Folk life museum(Rumsiskes), Grutas park, Devils museum, The Great War Museum. Some of these attractions are not publicly offered by travel agencies. You can contact the website at the bottom of this article and they will help you to build up sightseeing list according to your interests.

Lithuania has quite a few traditional dishes and drinks and holds a good name for good taste, that stands out from Baltic region and Scandinavia. You will find a video review of Lithuanian food and drinks in website below.

Hotels in Lithuania are basically the same as everywhere in Europe, prices vary from 40EUR to 1000 EUR for luxurious penthouses or villas near the seaside.

Countryside tourism is very popular in Lithuania. You will find Lithuanian countryside cottages (usually modern houses built in villages, near lakes or rivers, with country life tunes) everywhere, prices vary from 10EUR to 100EUR per person. Do not forget to ask your host to introduce you to traditional Lithuanian sauna.

You can easily rent a car in all major cities - Kaunas, Vilnius, Klaipeda. It is easier to book in advance, because Lithuanians are punctual people and you do not have to worry, whether you will receive what you ordered. Roads are in a good condition. Car rental prices start from 20EUR per day, more information on terms and conditions, can be found on the website below.
