Take public transportation to get to Pere Lachaise cemetery. When riding the Metro, get off at the Père-Lachaise, Gambetta Porte or Philippe Auguste stops. The latter two stops let you off at the uphill side of the cemetery, so it is an easier walk downhill through the graves. Use the Pere-Lachaise stop after you exit at the downhill side of the cemetery. If you ride the bus to the cemetery, use buses numbered 61 or 69.

Know the times and dates the cemetery is open. The cemetery opens during November 6 through March 15, Monday through Friday, from 8:00 a.m. until 5:30 p.m., Saturday from 8:30 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. and Sunday and public holidays from 9:00 a.m. until 5:30 p.m. From March 16 through November 5, Monday through Friday, the cemetery opens from 8:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m., Saturday from 8:30 a.m. until 6:00 p.m. and Sunday and public holidays from 9:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m.
