Paris located on the river Seine is the largest city and the capital of France and one of the most populous metropolises in Europe. The city that attracts 27 million foreigners annually is perhaps the most popular tourist center in the world. This is an outline of some of the well-known tourist attractions in Paris.

The world-famous Eiffel Tower is the most important attraction in Paris and must visit this 1000 ft building. The iron icon constructed in 1889 to commemorate the centenary of the French Revolution has stairs, elevators and viewing platforms to take visitors to the top of the tower. Enjoy the most exiting views from the top of the Eiffel Tower. Go for a cruise on the beautiful Seine River to see major sights of the city and the glorious sunset over the Eiffel Tower. Many of this river cruises start from the Eiffel Tower area and move down the river for about one hour, crossing several interesting sites.

Notre Dame Cathedral situated on the Île de la Cité, a natural island in the Seine River is another famed site to visit. The church known for its French Gothic architecture has beautiful gateways, elaborate carvings and many more to see. Visit this remarkable cathedral in early morning, walk around and climb to the top of the towers to get a fascinating view of the place. Sainte Chapelle Church (Holy Church) built in 1248 is another well-known Gothic church and is located near to the Notre Dame Cathedral.

Walk down the most well-known avenue of Paris, Champs Elysees to the famed Arc de Triomphe. The long street has a number of restaurants to visit. The 164 feet, massive arch built by Napoleon is a memorial of his military successes.

Visiting the largest art museum in the world, The Louvre that attracts over four million visitors every year is a must do in Paris. This public museum opened in 1793 has more than 35,000 pieces of artwork of paintings, antiquities, sculptures and more, arranged in 8 divisions. Never miss the gigantic glass pyramid at the entrance and the 'Salle des Etats' that holds Mona Lisa of Da Vinci. Les Invalides is another important place to visit. This complex of military museums, monuments and retirement homes for war veterans was built in 1679. The major attraction here is the tomb of Napoleon Bonaparte; a glorious, huge marble monument.

An enjoyable tour in the open double Decker bus along the major sites in Paris is recommended for all first time visitors. The L'Open tour that offers fine headphone commentaries in eight main languages is a preferred one.Musée d'Orsay, located in a former railway, station is a must for art buffs and the world-renowned museum of impressionist paintings has an amazing collection of paintings by the most famous artists, marble sculptures, furniture and many more. Take enough time to watch all the mesmerizing works of maestros.

Montmarte in the north of the city is the highest spot in Paris and visit the holy Sacré-Coeur Basilica, known for Romanesque and Byzantine architecture on the top of the hill. Disneyland Resort, Chessy is the real magic in Paris and the wonderful paradise offers numerous rides and many other astounding activities like live-action shooting, special effects show, walking with the Seven Dwarfs and more. Disney Village has great hostels, over 68 restaurants, a concert venue, games arcade and an IMAX theater. Opéra Garnier is the magnificent, 2200 seat opera house in Paris.
