How to Reserve the Glacier Express Train
By:Marissa Abernathy

The Glacier Express offers transportation service between several railway stations in the Swiss Alps. Since 1930, the express train has provided beautiful views of the mountains in Switzerland. From Zermatt to St. Moritz, travelers experience an array of picturesque landscapes, including mountain peaks and meadows in the valley. Tickets for this scenic journey can be reserved online and picked up at the train station before departure. Travelers with a Eurailpass can also purchase discounted tickets at any of the Glacier Express train stations.

Determine the dates you plan to travel. Reservations for up to nine people can be made online or by phone up to 90 days in advance. Note that the train does not operate between November 1 and December 11.

Plan the departure and arrival points for your journey. The Glacier Express travels between Zermatt and St. Moritz, with several connections between. The entire route takes about 7 1/2 hours for those who would like to experience the full day trip. However, independent travelers can make reservations departing from and arriving at any of the 15 railway stations. One of the stops is Brig, where the train turns to travel along the Rhône Valley. Another scenic station is Disentis, where the train begins to travel beside the Rhine Gorge.

Choose a scheduled departure time. The train schedule varies between the winter and summer seasons. Reservations are generally recommended, particularly during peak travel seasons.

Provide your personal information to confirm the purchase. Indicate preferences for meal options or other travel offers that are available. Special offers can include rail tours with complimentary lunch, or accommodation packages in St. Moritz or Zermatt.

Confirm your order online at the official Glacier Express website, or any other travel agency that sells Glacier Express railway tickets. Group tickets or specific packages can also be booked by calling or e-mailing the Glacier Express reservation office. The central reservation office accepts group bookings for parties of 10 or more.
