Some of you will never agree because of this phenomenon that is becoming more widely familiar (well documented on the internet, with color graphics ;o): The Republican Brain. Yep, there is such a thing. And it applies to conservatives of all types, worldwide, not just to American Republicans. In a nutshell: When the brain of a Republican is observed during an MRI, scientists observe that different areas of that brain become highlighted when the subject is subjected to fear but that, by comparison, Democrat Brains do not get highlighted as much and often not in the same areas. Republicans react more to fear than Democrats do. This is why a dialogue is almost impossible between the two groups: Fear causes irrationality. The more fear you feel, the more irrationality your judgement displays. It includes denying facts that are proven scientifically (for example, believing that austerity is necessary to improve the economy of a country while all economic indicators point to the other direction). It explains why a rational dialogue is often impossible: Fear becomes the controling element of the Republican Brain.... And fear makes us hang to the past because it feels familiar and therefore, safer than a future based on concepts and hopes.
