Agree!
But there are some damn good ESL teachers out there who are qualified in TESOL only. I mean they don't have a degree- and who cares?
As I have frequently said before, a degree in ballroom dancing or scuba diving has nothing to do with a persons ability to teach!
Back when I left school, apprenticeships were far more important (and more attractive), than spending a further 4 years in a classroom.
The legislation in China may REQUIRE a teacher to have a degree, but TESOL (or other ESL diploma), is far more important when it comes to working on the 'shop-floor', so-to-speak.
If I had an education-based degree (which I don't - my degree is in Business Administration), I am not so sure I would be teaching ESL students when I could teach in a NES country.
IT IS WHAT IT IS...........GET OVER IT !
