The Chinese have a 5 year rule, which they retain the right to enforce, and have already done so in particular parts of the country, resulting in experienced FTs being prevented from continuing their employment in China as FTs.

What it means is that after teaching in China for 5 years, you may have to go back home for 2 years to ensure your English remains up to scratch when you return to resume your teaching career in the PRC.

This should be taken into account by all foreigners who have the intention of settling in China, probably eventually marrying a Chinese citizen, which is like what often transpires when Westerners go abroad to other countries to teach, and meet the love of their lives there.

No other EFL teaching country, as far as I know, has such a rule on its books.
