A former colleague of mine at a Chinese university discovered he had cancer and possibly only
several months to live. The school asked him "but you can still attend
classes, right" ????

One former FT in my city was badly hurt in a traffic accident a while ago. Unfortunately for him, he was employed at the absolute worst training centre that was owned by the kind of low-life scum that gets all training centres a bad name.
To cut a long story short, this FT was dragged back to the classroom so quickly that he was delivering lessons whilst attached to a saline drip.

This behaviour is what causes people to hate Chinese. Their greed and total lack of empathy for others is appalling!

This is true up to a point. However, one particular FT, who taught this student last year, has now gone to a school in another province. Upon hearing the news of this tragedy, this particular FT was naturally upset. On Sunday night there was a knock on the apartment door, it was the Chinese FAO who had come to check that everything was OK. Upon hearing the full story, the FAO told the FT to take Monday off (with pay), in order to mourn this student's death a little longer.
