Haha, complaining because certain restaurants go for a non English teaching kind of clientele?

Vineyard cafe is pretty good, does a decent pint of really fresh, Beijing beer and the boss is a pretty sound English bloke, if I remember correctly. Their Full English is totally worth it, if you're too f**ked to cook your own stuff after a night on the lash. Hell it's even near a subway station, so you can head there straight from Sanlitun, Gongti or wherever you was drinking at.

The local area is good for a little walk round afterwards, has even got a couple of nice bars you could pop into if you happen to go there at night; one is run by an old member of Joyside, a band that is really well known in Beijing rock circles.

Beijing's also got Kro's nest, Gung Ho!, Pyro... All adequately good enough. Some of the 5 star hotels also have very good places in-house, that do a more Italian style thin-crust kind of thing. Yeah, it's expensive, but you can always just earn more money or only ever go there as a special treat, right?

You talk about saving money on Western food? Sure, you can cook at home, but haven't you ever thought that you could just eat Chinese food and not just desperately try to obtain everything from back home? Heating up Walmart pizza? Do you have any self respect? If you don't have a decent Western place locally, there's literally thousands of Korean places popping up on the back of the popularity of Korean soap operas. Every second Chinese girl in their 20's in on to that chicken and beer thing now.
