A totally backward and uneducated knowledge of, and views on and about sexual matters lies behind all this IMHO.

One assistant of an FAO mentioned to me, in all seriousness, that young Chinese people "don't live together outside of marriage!". She seemed genuinely shocked I even hinted at it. I was trying to explain, it is sort of like to try before you buy, but she didn't seem to agree. A couple of students agreed with me that there should be sex education in the middle and high schools, as opposed to what there is now, nothing, no discussion at all. How are things expected to change and improve if you can't discuss things, or there is no provision in the education system to educate students about certain issues? I doubt this will ever change in la la land, though......
